The Fastest Men in the World

Many other talented sprinter get over shadowed by Usain Bolt.

Since 2008, Usain Bolt has dominated the track and field world. Bolt runs in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay and has won three gold medals in each. He also currently holds the world record for the 100 meter dash at 9.58 seconds. With all of his accomplishments worldwide, Usain Bolt is a very recognizable name. Bolt ranks fifteenth on ESPN most famous athletes. There are many sprinters who tend to live in Bolt’s shadow because of his fame.

Justin Gatlin 

Justin Gatlin was a runner for the U.S.A. in the 2016 Rio Olympics, he placed second in the 100 meter dash, behind Bolt with a time of 9.89 seconds. He was also a participant in the 2004 and 2012 Olympics. He was a gold medalist in the 2004 Olympics in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 9.85 seconds. He has also received a bronze medal in the 200 meter and silver and gold medals in the 4×100 meter.

Andre De Grasse 

Andre De Grasse is a runner from Canada, he ran a 9.91 in the 2016 Olympics earning the bronze medal. The 2016 Olympics was De Grasse’s first time at the Olympics, but he performed very well by also earning a bronze medal in Canada’s 4×100 relay and a silver medal in the 200 meter behind Bolt.

Yohan Blake 

Yohan Blake was the fourth place runner in the 2016 Olympics, the sprinter from Jamaica ran 9.93, but ran a faster time in London at the 2012 Olympics with a time of 9.75 earning the silver medal behind Bolt and ahead of Gatlin. Blake also ran in the 200 meter at the 2012 Olympics also winning the silver medal behind Bolt.

Akani Simbine 

The 23 year old South African sprinter placed fifth in his first Olympic games in 2016. He ended with time of 9.94, which was not his best. Simbine ran his best time while competing to go to the Olympics a month earlier; he ran a time of 9.89.
