The Antioch girls cross country team defeated the Grayslake North Knights Monday, September 27, on senior night. The Knights were always a few points in front of the Sequoits going into this meet, but they were able to come out with a victory. Strong runners for the Sequoits continue to be sophomore Natalie Hill, who placed 2nd, and junior Jessica Lamberty, who placed 4th.

Junior Kaitlyn Castillo is a runner on the cross country team.

“As a team we will able to do really well,” Castillo said. “We are improving each time we go. We come back stronger, and we either beat the team or it’s a close loss, it’s not by much.”

Castillo said that one of the reasons for their success is that they run in packs, but they also have room for improvement.

“We’re always running in packs so we are always close together,” Castillo said. “But there is a lot of space between our gaps so that’s how teams are able to rack up points.”

Castillo explains how their team is training to improve.

“Coach adjusted the training this year so that definitely helped the team,” Castillo said. “It boosted our resistance, our sprints are definitely stronger.”

Castillo believes their team will do well this season, but it will definitely be exciting for Hill.

“Natalie is doing really really well,” Castillo said. “I think she has a shot at going to state this year.”

The Sequoits next competition will be and invite this Saturday, October 1, at Fox River Park.
