A City Divided: Cubs or Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs currently lead the seven game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers: 3-2. Although the Cubs may be winning baseball games, when it comes to winning over the hearts of all Chicago baseball fans it is quite the opposite. Chicago is a city divided between the Southside Chicago White Sox and the Northside Chicago Cubs.

Junior Ethan Byczek is a White Sox fan who is rooting for the Dodgers.

“I hate the Cubs,” Byczek said. “My whole family are White Sox fans so we always root against the Cubs.”

There are also fans of other sports teams who are rooting for the Dodgers. Freshman Maya Schon is a lifelong Brewers fan who is definitely against the Cubs.

“My family is split down the middle between the Cubs and Brewers, so whichever side you’re on, you always root against the other team,” Schon said.

There are many students and staff who are rooting for the Cubs because many people believe it is “their year.” Senior Erika Garcia has been cheering for the Cubs since she was born and this series is certainly no exception.

“I am rooting for the Cubs of course,” Garcia said. “I’ve been a fan for 17 years of my life and I was born into it. There’s nobody else I could root for.”

Both teams return to Chicago for game six and seven of the National League Championship Series to see who will move on to the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
