Fuel Foods for Power Plays

With soccer tryouts coming up in less than two weeks, it is important to get in the best shape possible. Getting in shape is not just working out and working on skills as much as possible, it is also making sure to eat foods that will help your body power through those tough practices and games.

One of the most important things to remember is to eat foods that resemble the colors of a rainbow.

Eat fruits or vegetables with each meal. Choose a wide variety of colors for the biggest benefit,” according to ussoccer.com.

By eating foods that are natural and less processed, the body is able to use more nutrients to its advantage. Senior Teresa Furlong tries to follow this tip as much as possible during the offseason.

“I try to drink a lot of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables,” Furlong said.

Freshman Adalia Tate attempts to do the same as Furlong during the offseason in order to be in top shape.

“I try to eat fruits and veggies with lunch and dinner to stay healthy,” Tate said. “I also pack a water bottle everyday for school.”

Tate tries to eat those foods because they are rich in various vitamins, minerals and natural sugars that she can burn off in order to keep her moving throughout the day.

Other foods that are beneficial for soccer players are foods with a nice balance of carbs and proteins so that they can have more long term energy.
