Although Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have not verbally confirmed their relationship status, the media has drawn attention to recent events that hint at romantic connections. The two celebrities being open about their relationship has been a shock to the internet due to it being so unexpected. Many people believe the coverage of their relationship has been excessive and blown out of proportion.
Travis Kelce has been a well-known tight end on the Kansas City Chiefs since he was drafted in 2013, and when he mentioned Swift the first couple of times, not many people saw it going anywhere. In Kelce’s podcast “New Heights,” he mentioned attending Swift’s concert and wanting to give his phone number to her before the show. However, he did not have the opportunity to meet her that night.
“I saw Kelce talk about Taylor Swift in his podcast, but I never saw it going anywhere,¨ senior Ryan Swanson said. “I thought of it as more of a joke.”
As someone who has been watching the NFL for years, Swanson believes that learning about athlete’s personal lives enhances the experience of football nights. However, he also believes the media should not make this big of a deal about celebrities’ romantic lives because it begins to disregard the game itself.
“I don’t like how the media is covering [their relationship],” Swanson said. “On Sunday night football, they keep covering Taylor Swift and that takes away from the actual game.”
The Chiefs have struck fire with the tenth overall draft pick, Patrick Mahomes in 2017, Kelce and Mahomes have been a major factor in the recent success in Kansas City.
“The Chiefs are one of the best, if not the best, NFL team so they already have a lot of coverage, but this is boosting their coverage even more,” Swanson said.
The media coverage on The Chiefs is now heightened and many of Swift’s fans are watching more football just to learn as much as they can about Kelce and Swift. The amount of focus on Swift during the game keeps her fans interested. The coverage seems to be beneficial to Chiefs fans so far as well, considering the results of Swift attending Chiefs games are noticed to be better for Kelce than games she has not attended.
With Swift in attendance, Kelce averages 28.5 points per game, 432.3 total yards per game and 108.0 receiving yards per game. Compared to games Swift has not been present at which average 21.3 points per game, 349.3 total yards per game and 46.5 receiving yards per game.
Senior Faith Correa has been intrigued by this relationship because of her interest in the NFL, as well as Swift’s music. Correa has high hopes for the couple lasting and believes things are going well.
“Their relationship could last because they both have similar characteristics, but they are also very different from each other, but that’s what keeps them interested,” Correa said.
Kelce was spotted in the audience of The Eras Tour with Scott Swift on November 11, 2023. Fans were excited to see Kelce in the crowd singing along to the songs with her father enjoying the show. When Swift sang her hit song “Karma,” she changed the lyrics, originally written as “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me,” to say “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” fans instantly burst out in excitement, and admired Kelce’s excited reaction.
With fans already exhilarated over the lyric change, she was then spotted after the show running into Kelce’s arms with a kiss. Fans are excited to see a man treating Swift so well.
As the couple has been spotted together and the media is ecstatic as they have been spotted together in public more frequently, fans hope for an incredible outcome to come from their relationship and hope the media coverage does not have negative effects on their relationship.
