Antioch’s Luke Menzies finishes the race strong.

The Sequoits boy’s cross country team competed in the Wheeling Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, October 7. The Sequoits finished in 10 place out of a total of 15 teams.

Out of 122 athletes, Antioch’s sophomore Charlie Smith finished in fifth place. The other competitors representing Antioch were junior Mikey Volkmar, senior Andrew Johnson, sophomore Josh Linck, senior Alex Besson, junior Eric Hart, senior Joe Sculuca, sophomore Luke Menzies, and senior Max Barton. They finished from 52 place to 150 place. Antioch’s top runner Charlie Smith finished the race in 15:44:5.

“I tried to just stick to the strategy I’ve been building towards all season long,” Smith said. “I really just ran at my own pace and trusted my speed to help me finish well.”

The Sequoits’ next competition is against seven other schools in the NLCC Conference meet on Saturday, October 14. They will run at Fox River Park 10:00 a.m.
