Madaya, Syria, is on the verge of starvation. Citizens of this war-torn city are drinking soup made up of grass and leaves. According to reporters from CNN, the people of Madaya look just like skeletons. The International Committee of the Red Cross prepared aid to Madaya and several other surrounding cities in Syria.
“One short delivery will not be the solution,” ICRC spokeswoman Dibeh Fakhr said. “What is needed is regular access.”
This problem stems from high food prices. Food readily available in the United States like flour and milk is priced upwards of $100 in Madaya. These prices have caused many people to die from malnutrition and starvation. It is unknown exactly how many people have died because of this incident. UN agencies have been trying to send help since October and were denied entrance. but the Syrian government has allowed aid to come into the country to promote stability.
