The Death of a Princess

On Dec. 27, 2016, iconic actress Carrie Fisher died after being brought into intensive care on Dec. 23, 2016. During a flight to London, she had a heart attack that eventually took her life. Fisher’s death had an even greater impact because of the unexpected death of her mother Debbie Reynolds the following day. Many fans sent tributes and condolences in response to her death, including those from her fellow “Star Wars” cast, and members from her other works.

“I was shocked to hear this because I’m not always in the loop, so it was my first time hearing about it,” senior Sydney Polich said.
“I was very sad that I ended up rewatching all the “Star Wars” movies along with the documentary about her life,” senior Colette Mendoza said.

Fisher had been widely known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the “Star Wars” Franchise, becoming one of the most iconic characters in movie entertainment. Questions have arisen about what will become of Fisher’s role in the upcoming “Star Wars” films, now that she will no longer be able to play Princess Leia.

“No one at Lucasfilm seems to be in a rush to solve its Leia problem. As an insider told The Hollywood Reporter Thursday, ‘People are still deeply mourning Carrie’s death over there,’” writer Zach Johnson of E! News said.

Being an inspiration to many, Fisher had earned herself a large fan-base that has continuously been sending out artwork in honor of her work and her impact on society. She will truly be missed.
