The Kentucky meet 4x400m relay team for Antioch poses for a photo after their race on Saturday, February 18.

On Saturday, February 18 a few athletes from the Antioch track team went to the University of Kentucky for an invitational. In order to participate in this meet, the athletes needed to have a previously recorded time, then send the time in to see if they qualified to be in the meet. Seven athletes of the track team qualified to go down to Kentucky to compete.

Senior Landon Keefover made it to the finals and placed seventh in the meet overall, he is currently ranked second in the state of Illinois. Freshman Ayanna Tommy also had a good showing, running a 7.91 in the 60m, ranking her ninth in the state of Illinois.

Sophomore Rachel Phillips participated in the 4×400 meter relay. Unfortunately, her team did not place, but she still has a positive outlook on this upcoming track season.

“Personally I think I did pretty well for my first 400 meter run of the season, because I haven’t been to track practice yet because I’ve been at basketball practices and games,” Phillips said.

Phillips is also hoping to make it to state again, like she did last year.

“As a relay, I am looking forward to working hard, and I am going to try to qualify for state. I also want to improve my 400 split time,” Phillips said.
