From the early age of four, senior Alex Unekis knew that he wanted to play baseball, and after 14 years, he still craves more.

“I saw my first White Sox game when I was four, and I knew from there; I wanted to play,” Unekis said.

Like all athletes, Unekis has had a lot of support in his life from a variety of coaches, friends and parents.

“All of my travel coaches have helped me so much throughout my years,” Unekis said. “Also, Hafer and Malec helped me a lot with my transfer onto Varsity.”

Of course, Unekis could not have done this all on his own. Fellow teammate, senior Timothy Otter has been playing with Unekis for four years now and loves being on the same team.

“He’s just a great guy,” Otter said. “On the field he’s a great teammate and off the field he’s an even better friend.”

Teammate, senior Jacob Emer could not agree more and uses Unekis’ fierce attitude to push him to do better.

“Alex is a fierce competitor that will do anything to win,” Emer said. “Alex and I played the same position last year, so we did a lot of the same drills. I kinda always tried to make sure that if he caught the ball, I caught the ball.”

Next fall, Unekis will be furthering his education and baseball career at Concordia University of Wisconsin and encourages anybody who is thinking about playing to just get out there and have fun, because after all,  that is what the game is all about.
