Bust Your Wanderlust: Thinking Green

It can be difficult to find the time and money to travel, but with some strategic planning and irresistible ideas, teen travel is completely possible. Truth-be-told, you need to start somewhere, so before you “hit-the-road Jack”, you need a few nifty ideas to kick-start your fund. Having a job or a source of income is vital for any adventure seeker, but there are a few fun ways to stash the cash.

Here are a few ideas to start your fund:

  1. Offer your assistance to neighbors for services (house-sitting, pet-sitting, walking their dog, mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, etc.)
  2. Start an free online website to promote homemade goods like stationery and other crafts.
  3. Wash cars.
  4. Babysit.
  5. Get a job.

Saving money is another way to add to your travel fund. Although it doesn’t directly bring in the cash, it keeps money from leaving the jar. Try limiting how much you spend on restaurants, activities, and clothes by asking yourself a few simple questions.

  1. Do I really need this?
  2. Does this fit?
  3. How often will I use this?
  4. What am I willing to get rid of to make space for this new item?

Like Michael Palin says, “Once the travel bug bites, there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life.” Let your fund grow as fast as your wanderlust.
