Everyone wants to live a happy and healthy life. There are many things people can be doing every day to live a healthier lifestyle  that they might not already know about. Here are some things to add to a daily or weekly routine that might help improve a person’s mood and health.

  1. Get enough sleep. It is universally known that many people don’t get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. In some cases, this can be very hard to correct or avoid but it is important to try to get the proper amount of sleep as often as possible. Obviously, one will feel rested, but getting the recommended amount of sleep will also improve motivation and awareness.
  2. Stay hydrated. The amount of water and fluids in someone’s body genuinely helps one feel better throughout the day. Even just going one week with the recommended amount of water every day can really improve a person’s mood, energy and motivation. According to Healthline, mild dehydration can impair energy levels and mood and lead to major reductions in memory and brain performance.
  3. Keep a balanced diet. It is important to get the most out of every meal. Do research to see what vitamins, proteins, fats and other nutrients the body should be getting out of the food that is taken in and try to include all of those things in a daily diet.
  4. Do some form of physical activity regularly. Keeping up with physical activity not only has health benefits but emotional benefits as well. Exercising regularly by going to the gym, taking a walk or even just stretching can improve someone’s mental state, making them feel more motivated and energized.
  5. Make time for personal interests and hobbies. This is possibly the most important thing for mental wellness. If one doesn’t allow themselves time to do what they enjoy, it can possibly lead to mood swings and cause them to feel sad often.
  6. Take a break from screen time. As cliche as it sounds, it is very true. Even if it’s just an hour everyday before going to sleep, taking time away from the screen to do other things can be extremely beneficial for one’s mental health and mood.
  7. Keep up with personal hygiene. Not showering every day, not brushing one’s teeth, not keeping a consistent skin care routine and many other things can really affect one’s life. When someone doesn’t keep up with these things, it can cause feelings of stress and discomfort. Keeping up with these things is fairly simple and by doing it every day, one can feel much more refreshed, organized, motivated and healthy. According to Livestrong, implementing good personal hygiene practices has both health and social benefits.

Keeping up with even just a few of these things every day will really help to improve someone’s overall lifestyle. Sophomore Lyrik Stay agrees that these things are of utmost importance.

“I think these things are important because if we don’t take time to focus on ourselves and stay active, we can never improve our well being,” Stay said.
