Finding that perfect blend of fruits, yogurt and ice can seem like such a simple task. However, to get that truly exquisite taste out of your smoothie it requires a little bit of culinary knowledge. Knowing the right ingredients and ratios to use when making a smoothie can mean the difference between a tasty smoothie and a fruity disaster. Here are some tips to make a truly delicious smoothie.

When your favorite fruits are in season, freeze them to insure freshness and to make sure you’ll still be able to use them even when they are out of season.

Adding more frozen fruits or ice to the recipe will determine how thick you would like your smoothie to be.

For some added nutrients you can add in other ingredients such as protein powder for a nice boost.

Here is a quick and easy recipe to optimize the taste of your smoothie with the tips:

Ingredients:
One cup of ice
One frozen banana
Two cups of your choice of berry (strawberries, raspberries, etc.)
One cup of milk (can use soy milk also)
½ cup of plain or vanilla yogurt (can also be soy for non-dairy)
½ cup of freshly squeezed orange juice to add some tanginess
Three tablespoons of honey for a sweeter taste

Directions:
Peel the banana and chop up the berries.
Grab a measuring cup and measure one cup of your choice of milk.
Do the same for your choice of yogurt.
If you have a juicer, grab an orange and make a cup of orange juice (any store bought juice will work as well).
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend along with the ice until everything is smooth.
Pour into a cup and enjoy!
