On Wednesday, May 24, the boys track team headed down to Eastern Illinois University for the state track meet, making it to state for any sport is a major accomplishment for anyone.

The boys track team is skilled enough to have the opportunity to head down to EIU to run in multiple heats.

A runner spotlight is Payton Holmes, this is Holmes’ first season on the ACHS boys track team and has been a major addition to the squad. “It feels really good going into state, I didn’t think in my first year competing in track I would make it. But we have a great group of guys that are ready to run,”said Holmes.

The team’s season is coming full circle. While they still have goals to accomplish, the team is confident that they can reach them. The expectation for such a group as the Boys track team this year is huge and the pressure is only building as the season goes on. With all eyes on them, the Sequoits are ready to make their final push.

The track boys have never brought home a state title for anything running related, this week the team will give it all they have to try and change that.

Joey Neumann, a senior at ACHS, is also taking part in this state meet. “State is something I have been looking forward to since I’ve started track and I’m glad I’ll be able to have gone down at least once during my high school years, the weather will be great and being on campus should be a blast,” Neumann said.

Neumann gives me some tips on how to prepare for big events, also with him being a Division one football player he knows a thing or two about big events. You have to be in the mindset that the only thing that matters is the field or the track. If your head is not in the game your body won’t be either.

As the team’s season comes to a close, the boys have their eyes on the prize, the boys are not slowing down until they get that state title.
